About the author:
Channing Chasten is a former professional soccer player, author, motivational speaker, and nonprofit director committed to inspiring youth to pursue their highest potential. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in both Ohio and Arizona, Channing began playing soccer at the age of three. His love for the game followed him into his youth career, where he developed a reputation for his work ethic, leadership, and dedication to consistent improvement.
Channing continued his journey at Hamilton High School, becoming one of the top players in the state and earning the opportunity to play Division I soccer—fulfilling a dream he had carried since childhood. He went on to play at The Ohio State University, where he competed as a student-athlete and graduated with a degree in Communication Analysis and Engagement.
After college, Channing signed his first professional contract with Phoenix Rising FC. His experiences as a pro athlete, combined with his personal story of perseverance, led him to write The 1% Kid.
Today, Channing is the founder and director of The 1% Kid Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth through literacy, mindset development, and goal-setting education. He travels across the country as a motivational speaker and author, delivering school presentations, workshops, and community events that promote resilience, confidence, and the belief that anyone can become their own version of the “1% Kid.”
