Join us for a special storytime hosted by the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Latino’s Young Ambassadors Program. The Young Ambassador will share two new picture books published by the National Museum of the American Latino, My Sister’s Quinceanera and Please Pass The Tamales, with fun hands-on activities.
Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino advances the representation, understanding and appreciation of Latino history and culture in the United States. The museum provides resources and collaborates with other museums to expand scholarly research, public programs, digital content, collections and more. Since 2006, they have fostered the creative drive of over 350 high school seniors by providing them interdisciplinary, leadership experiences through the Young Ambassador Program (YAP). YAP is comprised of a week-long college preparatory seminar at the Smithsonian (Washington Week Experience), a virtual Making History Community Practicum in the participants’ local regions across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and an alumni network with continuing education, professional development opportunities, and networking offerings. Each of these components aims to transform high school graduates into college-educated, young professionals poised for success.
